Danish Climate Action Plan

In mid-2020, the Danish government and a majority of parliament passed one of the most ambitious acts on reducing greenhouse emissions in the world. The Climate Act legally commits future governments to reduce greenhouse emissions by 70 % by 2030 compared to 1990 levels and towards net zero
by 2050. Download fact sheet to get valuable insights to the climate action plan.

ESTABLISHMENT OF THE WORLD’S FIRST ENERGY ISLANDS

The world’s first energy islands will by 2030 contribute to the overall electrification of Denmark and provide green energy to households in Denmark. In addition, it will be possible to export the energy to neighbouring countries. In the longer run, the energy islands will make use of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies as well as Power-to-X technologies.

Read more about the energy island in this fact sheet, which introduces main aspects of the current government’s first Climate Action Plan focusing on energy and industry.

KEY ELEMENTS OF THE CLIMATE ACTION PLAN ON ENERGY AND INDUSTRY 2020

  • Establishment of the world’s first energy islands – with 5GW of offshore wind power.

  • New funds for onshore wind, biogas and solar energy.

  • Investments in next generation technologies: Power-to-X (PtX) and Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS).

  • Support scheme for biogas and other green gases.

  • Energy efficiency measures.

  • Improved framework for utilization of surplus heat (e.g. surplus heat from data centres will no longer be taxed).

  • Transition to market driven build out of onshore wind and solar.
